THE MAGICIAN’S CODE
PRACTICE EVERY TRICK before you perform it to anyone – even your parents! There’s an old saying, “a good magician never tells his secrets, and a bad magician doesn’t have to.” Practice, practice, practice.
NEVER TELL YOUR SECRETS! Once people know how to do a trick, all the mystery is gone. Plus, if they too can do the trick, then your talent and skill is no longer special to them.
NEVER REPEAT A TRICK for the same person. If they ask you to do it again, and they will, they are really looking for an opportunity to catch you the next time. So, NEVER repeat the same trick for the same audience.
BE A GOOD AUDIENCE MEMBER. Now that you possess some of magic’s coolest secrets, if you see someone performing you MUST treat that person the same way YOU want to be treated. If other words, don’t let them or other audience members know that you know how the tricks are done. Treat other magicians with respect!
PERFORM MAGIC TO ENTERTAIN and mystify, not to show that you are better than others. Remember, always strive to entertain your audience and treat them with respect. Without an audience there is no magic.
(Say this out loud with your hand over your heart)
‘As a magician I promise never to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Oath in turn. I promise never to perform any illusion for any non-magician without first practicing the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the illusion of magic.’
